1982 KZ1300 rescue and rebuild

Recently I made these little pieces that go inside the air box to screw down the tool tray. I was planning on having them made from stainless steel, but without a welding machine no way to do it. So I went for brass and my old soldering iron. They fit perfectly

But no headlight,

Sorry dude, have one working perfectly (see the photo). I just wanted to either secure one for a buddy or have one as a back up - my other bike has a headlight cracked since 3 years ago.

We were writing about coolant reserve tank, so I will throw something in here regarding old tanks. 
The original one on my bike was brittle where the viewing window is, so I repaired it with a piece of clear Plexiglas and JB Weld. 
This is another one I got off eBay, so I have now a complete good original reserve tank.
Those tanks, if available, usually come filthy. So, here I just like to show how I clean mine.

First I extracted the seized and damaged screw with a specialty screw extractor for damaged screws heads. 

 

I put a few spoons of rice and some tub cleaning compound with bleach. Added some water, and shook all around for 10-15 minutes. Rinsed, dried. 
Next poured some Acetone inside to remove any dark discoloration left overs. Also, I wiped the outside removing any stuck tar covered spots.



After rinsing again, and drying, the reservoir looks like new. The area where the viewing window is very slightly discolored, but barely noticeable. 
Great healthy tank for $15, if you are lucky on eBay. The tank is actually much whiter than the way it looks here in the photo (yellow light at night). 





Later I will sand blast the metal cover and paint it black as original.
I am going to use the tank I fixed before and it's already on the bike, and this one is just ready if I want the bike to be all original and correct.
